Challenge: Create “new” that feels like it had always existed

Goals of project:

Create a new practice that felt like a business that has always been part of the neighborhood
Take advantage of the good bones left behind be a previous tenant, an added atmospheric aid – and budgetary bonus

Dr. Daphne Johnson opened Arrowleaf Veterinary in Mount Hood, Oregon, in July 2021. “We were aiming for something that was warm, but clean and modern. Where you would walk in and feel like you were walking into a business that was supposed to be here.” Her new facility is immaculate and modern, sporting concrete floors and exposed ductwork and boasting an
arsenal of the latest equipment and technology.

To accomplish this goal, she partnered with a local contractor familiar with the predominant architectural style of the Hood River business community. “A lot of buildings in Hood River are this way, with concrete floors and open ceilings,” Dr. Johnson explained. “There are several breweries in the area with the same aesthetic, for example.”
